Program Overview

Training Innovations has created a unique program that offers a high degree of personal support to each participant. Our program blends in-person meetings, group training and online workshops to offer you more schedule flexibility while still offering you a lot of 1:1 support.

Career Counselling
Throughout the program you will have weekly meetings with your Career Strategist to work on activities to help you reach your personal employment goal. Each week you will spend approximately 3 hours working on personalized activities with your facilitator.

Job Skills Training
Each week you will participate in facilitated training workshops with other members of your group. The workshops are a blend of workplace skills training and service skills training. Some of the topics we cover are:

Workplace skills

  • Essential skills for today's workplace
  • Workplace relationships
  • Managing information
  • Thinking and problem-solving 
  • Presentation skills

Service skills

  • Communicating effectively with customers 
  • Customer relations and technology
  • Creative customer problem solving
  • Sales techniques
  • SuperHost training & certification

Behind the Scenes Company Tours
Each week you will spend time with a local employer observing and learning about the following topics in a "live" work environment. Some workplace themes we cover are:

  • Opportunities & standards of customer service
  • Workplace responsibilities & safety
  • Working with others
  • Technology
  • Performance support
  • Customer care
  • Work orientation & continuous learning

Online Job Preparation
Each week you will spend time completing online modules focused on helping you prepare for your job search. These online modules will be facilitated and will include the following topics:

  • Transferable skills, interests and values
  • Creating & using a resume
  • E-visible job market & finding work 
  • Your work options
  • Developing your plan

Coffee Talk Peer Support
Once a week you will meet with other participants and your facilitator for an informal get-together. These sessions are designed to give you an opportunity to connect with your peers, debrief your company tour experiences, and share your learning.

Intakes start three weeks prior to the start of each session. Eligible participants are unemployed workers age 50+. Preference will be given to participants ages 55 - 64, and to those that are not currently in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.
