Program Overview

The ASPECT Skills Connect program, IMMPowerBC, is delivered by multiple organizations across BC.  Training Innovations was selected by ASPECT through a competitive process to deliver the employer-endorsed IMMPowerBC program in the Lower Mainland.

Training Innovations has created a unique program that offers a high degree of personal support and facilitated learning on an individualized basis.  Our program has been designed with three phases of service:

Your Skills Profile

In the first phase, we will work with you to analyze your skills, experience and credentials.  You will complete a number of formal and informal assessment activities to evaluate your technical and professional skills, your English language ability, and your readiness for working in Canada.  You will also explore job opportunities in your field and identify the industry-specific skills and qualifications you need to work in BC.  With the support of a Learning & Employment Strategist you will determine a realistic work target, develop a prior learning / skills portfolio, and set personal learning goals.

Building Your Skills

In the second phase, you will focus on enhancing your professional skills by participating in a series of learning modules at Training Innovations.  You will develop your communication skills, increase your knowledge about Canadian workplace culture, and fine-tune your self-marketing and presentation skills so that you can confidently promote your abilities to an employer.  Depending on your individual needs and career goals, you may choose to participate in other industry-specific skill upgrading to support certification during this phase.

Getting Work

In the third and final phase, you will make connections with employers for employment, work experience or practicum placement.  We work closely with employers in the targeted industry sectors (construction, energy, hospitality/tourism and transportation) and will help you secure work in an occupation that uses your skills and qualifications.  If you are lacking Canadian experience, we can help you connect with employers for work experience, practicum or mentoring opportunities.  We’ll help you find the right job to use your valuable skills and experience.
