FAQ

Do you charge a fee for your services?

The services offered through the Employment Resource Centre are sponsored by Service Canada and are offered at no cost to you.

Do I have to be on Employment Insurance (EI) to access services?

No, our services are for anyone who is unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week.  However, if you are on EI or have established a previous EI claim, you may be able to access additional benefits such as skills development employment benefits (sponsored training).  To find out what programs and services best meet your needs we encourage you to meet with one of our Learning & Employment Strategists.

What is a Learning & Employment Strategist?

Our Learning & Employment Strategists are experts in the field of career management.  They can assist you with all aspects of your work life – from career planning and job search techniques to developing a training plan and promoting yourself to employers.  In other organizations these staff may be referred to as “Case Managers” or “Employment Counsellors”.

Do I need to make an appointment?

We offer drop-in services in our Squamish office. Drop-in services are available Monday to Friday from 9:00am-3:30pm.  If you prefer a scheduled appointment, please call us at 604-815-4550.
For outreach services in Whistler, we encourage you to schedule an appointment if you would like to meet with a Learning & Employment Strategist.  Please call us at 1-888-882-2238 to schedule a meeting time.

What should I bring with me?

If you have a resume, please bring it along.  When you arrive, we will ask you to complete a short form that will provide us with additional information about your employment situation.

Will you find a job for me?

We can help you with all the aspects of finding work – from establishing a clear work target and developing effective job search tools, to promoting yourself to employers and negotiating a job offer.  We are not an employment agency so we do not contact employers on your behalf, however we can help you find job postings using the up-to-date information in our Work Resource Centre.

Can you help me write a resume?

Yes, we offer one-on-one resume assistance in our Employment Resource Centre in Squamish, and every Thursday at MY Place in Whistler.

I am hoping to get some funding for training. Can you help?

Yes! If you are interested in exploring options for training we encourage you to meet with one of our Learning & Employment Strategists as soon as possible.  We can determine whether you are eligible for funding, and assist you with the application process.
